Generic drugs accounted for more than 37% of total drug sales in the states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Rio de Janeiro, according to IQVIA data for 2023.

According to Tiago de Moraes Vicente, president of the Brazilian Association of Generic and Biosimilar Drug Manufacturers (PróGenéricos), these states consume the most generic drugs in Brazil.

2) Minas Gerais – 277,043,114 million units

3) Rio de Janeiro – 210,576,741 units

São Paulo:the most populous state in the country accounts for 37.76% of generic drug sales.

Minas Gerais:miners reach the milestone of 44.39% participation in drug sales.

Rio de Janeiro: inRio de Janeiro, generic drugs account for 39.05% of total drug sales.

“Generic drugs are equivalent alternatives to reference drugs, with the same active ingredients, doses, and efficacy, but generally at a lower cost. This increase in market share is a clear indication of the effectiveness of generics, as well as reflecting the positive impact of public policies and educational initiatives on the importance and benefits of generic drugs,” says Tiago.
