States in the region consumed a total of more than 80 million units of generic drugs from January to June 2024.
In 2023, generic drugs accounted for 37.85% of sales in the Midwest states. Among the highlights are drugs such as losartan, dipyrone, nimesulide, tadalafil, hydrochlorothiazide, and pantoprazole.
According to Tiago de Moraes Vicente, president of the Brazilian Association of Generic and Biosimilar Drug Manufacturers (PróGenéricos), the state of Goiás and the Federal District are the largest consumers in the region.
“In total, 80,936,182 units of generic drugs were sold from January to June 2024, an increase of 10.51% over the same period last year. Throughout 2023, 146,169,228 units of generic drugs were sold in the region,” says the president.

1) Mato Grosso – 14,700,298 units accumulated from January to June 2024, an increase of 2.68% compared to 2023, representing a 24.57% market share.
2) Federal District – 14,997,070 units accumulated from January to June 2024, an increase of 10.39% compared to 2023, representing a 21.35% market share.
3) Goiás – 40,799,716 units accumulated from January to June 2024, a growth of 14.72% compared to 2023, representing a 27.67% market share.
4) Mato Grosso do Sul – 10,439,098 units accumulated from January to June 2024, a 6.85% increase compared to 2023, representing a 24.20% market share.
